The Pier

It was a dark night. The stars were all shielded by thick clouds and the moon was only an iridescent sliver surrounded by a golden halo. The sky was as black as pitch, but a single stream of light penetrated the darkness. The air was cool and damp and an icy breeze cut through the night. She stood poised at the end of the pier. Her fingers clutched the banister tightly as she leaned forwards. A wave crashed throwing icy torrents up on her bare legs. Her white silk gown clung to her tightly after being doused by the crashing waves. She pushed her long, soft, pale ringlets, behind her shoulders as the wind roughly tried to whip her away into the murky sea. She had been standing, waiting here for such a very long time. Her friends, her family had tried to pull her away, bring her back to there world but she refused choosing to remain at her post waiting at the pier. She would occasionally eat, choking down the food she was no longer accustomed to. She was tired and fatigued, weak and half starved, but through it all she would not leave. There was speculation that she was searching for something or someone, that she could only find there, that perhaps she was searching for love...or simply trying to attain peace from within. People would come to see her like some exhibit in a zoo. But they did not understand....they could never understand.....What she was truly looking for.
