Insane

I could feel my heart pounding as I ran. Thudding from deeply within my chest. I took in shallow breaths as I weaved in and out of the trees. The tall pines and oaks stood statuesque casting frightening shadows over the paths. A slight breeze ruffled the leaves and the branches swayed attempting to block my paths. Brambles reached out from behind me snatching at my clothes holding me back. I skidded quickly to a stop "Who's there?" I called out whipping my head from side to side. I swept my hand through the midnight air. "I know you are out there." Frightened I backed away from the clearing. Pressing my back up against the thick bark of a tree I felt the rough pieces scratch the palms of my hands as I pressed against the surface. As soon as I touched the tree it's thick branches began to snake around me holding me captive. "NO!" I screamed hearing my voice echo throughout the eerie forest. I struggled against the gnarled branches of my capture. I twisted and contorted my body praying for any chance of escape. I pulled desperately at the branches snapping them in two only to realize that they had regrown. One branch slid around my throat tightening slowly cutting off my air supply. I began to feel week and light headed. Finally the relentless branches loosened there hold on me allowing me to slip to the ground. Slowly I rose my head from the damp earth. Brushing the soil from my face. I tried to stand hoisting my self upright. Bright lights danced in front of my eyes. I could see the lights begin to come closer and closer. My ears ruptured with the taunting screams of the forest. Panic stricken I clawed at the air trying to make the lights go away. "Leave me alone!" I screamed "Haven't you tortured me enough?" I fell to the ground quickly reaching out into the air trying to find something to steady myself with no avail. I crashed onto the ground making my head spin. I curled up sitting alone on the ground. Through my eyes I saw horrible things fill the forest. I was surrounded by monsters with long fangs dripping with blood. People were running through the forest getting grabbed and crushed by the trees. Shadows loomed over the forest. Perhaps it was day perhaps it was night you could not tell from the shield of darkness surrounding us. From all the terrors I saw a man in a black suit step out from the darkness. The monsters surrounding me backed away to allow him to pass. "Come along Jane." He spoke coldly "Your adventure is over it is time to return." I looked up at him his face was grey like coal his hands folded in front of him. I did not want to return with him and his army. He declared me insane along with all the others like me. I can see his horrible monsters I can see his cold leather heart. He has tricked us all into believing they don't exist. That his army is simply a figment of our imagination. But I know he is wrong. I know that they exist. They are real..they are always around us trying to trick us into making a mistake...trying to persuade us that really we are just seeing things...that we shouldn't be afraid of them. However I and others know that he is a lier. That the grey man brings darkness that he brings fear and brings pain. And we will wait in truth until we are rescued... I shook my head "The adventure is not over." I spoke softly "It is only beginning you have no hold over me." I slowly saw the monsters begin to back away and the trees loosen there grasp. The man in grey seemed in different. "You are wrong Jane...You are seeing things again. If you simply come with me everything will be alright." I smiled "No you have nothing I want to offer me." With that I turned and walked away. "You will regret this Jane!" He called after me "You need me you know you do." I paused and turned. I felt a warmth overcome me. "Leave me." I said firmly "Leave my mind and leave my life." I saw him look past me and his face grew terrified. He quickly spun on his heel and ran off into the darkness screaming followed by his minions. I slowly turned. To see another man standing behind me. But this man was gold and his face shone like the sun. He took my small cold hand into his and lead me down a narrow path. He shone so bright through the darkness. Like a candle shining in a dark room. He lead me gently through the forest. But when I was with him I was no longer afraid. I no longer was filled with fear. He slowly lead me down the road and when we had reached the end we stepped through the trees. The sun was so bright I had to shield my eyes. For the first time the man opened his mouth and gently spoke. "You are safe now daughter welcome into the light."
